THE PLAY: A Queen Victoria Musical
We are pleased to announce a Spring Performance:
Dress Rehearsal: Friday, May 4th, 10:30am
Matinee Performance: Tuesday, May 8th, 1:30pm
Evening Performance: Wednesday, May 9th, 7:30 pm
Water really began to flow on January 25 & 26 at Queen Vic. All QV students did drama/writing workshops with our Theatre Artists-In-Residence Patti Allan and Bev Sauve.
Next came an interdisciplinary exploration of water, exploring the biology, ecology, geography, art, literature, mythology, social politics and history of water as part of our regular classroom instruction. Throughout this process, the children will write and create visual images about water. This work will become the raw material for our original musical drama. All Queen Vic students will be performing at each of the three shows.
Stay tuned for details on how it all will work, including opportunities for you to get involved. |

Curricular Links and Relevance to our students
"Expose young people to workshops and residencies that have artistic quality and educational merit."
Water is built upon solid interdisciplinary study. Patti Allan has a consistent history of developing original theatre projects within learning communities and helping children achieve high quality work. Our children will be directly involved in all aspects of theatre production.
"Balance exposure of the arts to young people in remote, rural and urban environments."
Water is designed with the special needs of modern urban children in mind. Our project will connect our kids with the natural world in a values laden way. It will increase their appreciation and awareness of a specific natural resource, and allow them to react in a creative way.
"Establish professional standards for arts practices and presentations in schools and expose BC's children and youth to professional quality arts programming."
"Develop, maintain and expand the market for professional artists working with youth."
"Facilitate communication between the arts and education communities by developing mutual awareness, respect and appreciation."
"Promote the arts as an area of study and professional employment."
Because the end product of Water will be a public presentation, our project will be readily accessible to anyone interested. The methods used, although unique in their combination, are most accessible, are built upon past practice by other educators and will be easily replicated by other educators. We have a long and successful track record of producing original musicals, with a high degree of community involvement, at Queen Victoria. For these reasons, our project will help to set professional standards, and provide an attractive model for other artists and educators.
